Ian McKellen deconstructs Macbeth’s final soliloquy

This piece of video comes from a master-class given by Ian McKellan in the late 1970s. It is fascinating to watch and will be of particular interest to the 6th years who are putting in the hard work of revision of their single study text.

McKellen is, as always, a joy to watch.

  1. A very clever analysis of the soliloquy. I like the way McKellen focuses on the last word in each line and identifies their significance in the overall meaning of the speech. It will be very helpful for 6th years revising ‘Macbeth’.
